Rural Life
The contrast of urban life and rural life is abundantly clear here in Vietnam. Just a quick 15-20 minutes’ drive out of the city can make you feel like you are miles away from civilization. Much of the rural life revolves around farming and fishing, all-encompassing a slower paced lifestyle.

Monsoon
Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate. Broadly speaking, the weather in Vietnam’s monsoon season is from April to September. During these months, daily, almost like clockwork, it will rain heavily at about 3pm for an hour. If you are unlucky enough to find yourself in these downpours- consider yourself soaked!

Spar
Cockfighting has been widely practiced since the Ly Dynasty in the 11th Century. Professional trainers choose young chicks carefully, individually preparing their food and drink, bathing them, separating them from hens, and training them in fighting techniques.

Street Fight
Photographing a cockfight is actually difficult as gambling is illegal in Vietnam and locals are hesitant to be photographed participating in such events.

Afternoon Breeze
Locals generally have large extended families living in 1 or 2 bedroom homes. As the sun sets, most of the household activities move towards the front stoop or to the street as it is cooler outside. As such, the sense of community seems to be much stronger here than in many other countries I have lived in as neighbors interact more with each other.
