I was born into the Jewish faith. My mother converted to Judaism when she married my father and I was bar mitzvahed in Nairobi Kenya when I was 13. Unfortunately, I became less practicing as I grew older, blaming it on the fact that I lived in countries where there was not a large presence of Jews (Spain, Puerto Rico).
Foundation
Bamboo, a perfect combination of strength and flexibility, has come to represent harmony and balance in one’s life. In many ways, I see parallels between the importance of strength and balance found in bamboo and in the Buddhist religion.

Ghost Festival
The Ghost Festival, is a traditional Buddhist and Taoist festival held on the 15th night of the seventh month.On this day it is believed that ghosts and spirits, including those of deceased ancestors, come out from the “lower realm”. Activities during the ceremony would include preparing ritualistic food offerings, burning incense, and burning papier-mâché replicas of material items such as clothes, gold and other fine goods for the visiting spirits of the ancestors.
